“Las Simonas House” is the centre to learn and understand two important historical events that took place on Fuerteventura in 1740: The Battles of El Cuchillete and Tamasite, when the English privateers attacked the town of Tuineje and were defeated with pride by the island’s soldiers and the neighbours of the surrounding villages, the first time caught by surprise, armed with stones and sticks.
Since then, every year the victories are celebrated to commemorate the battles during the Sworn Feasts of Saint Michael the Archangel, which have acquired such historical, social and cultural relevance, that they have been granted the maximum award: Feasts of National Tourists Interest, apart from the distinction as Asset of Cultural Interest and Asset of Regional Tourist Interest, previously awarded. A huge display of thrill, cultural feeling, singularity and living history.
