Fuerteventura, the oldest one of the Canaries, is more than a paradise of volcanic and
erosive forms.
The twenty million years of erosion that have passed from the beginning of its volcanic formation, have exposed treasures difficult to find at first sight in nature.
Cueva del Llano (Cave of the Plain), a million-year-old, 650-metre-long tube of lava,
seams to have been formed as a result of the eruption of the volcano of the famous
mountain Escanfraga, the highest volcanic cone on Fuerteventura.
But its high geological value is not the only thing that the cave has to offer. It is also a
paleontological site with a huge amount of fossilised bone remains. And it is also home
to very special fauna, such as the small blind spider Maiorerus randoi, unique in the world. These and other wonders await in Cueva del Llano and its centre of interpretation.
