Architecture, culture and tradition in a Majorero village

LA ALCOGIDA ECOMUSEUM

ecomuseo de la alcogida

La Alcogida is a representation of the ethnographical values of Fuerteventura, a walk through the history of a rural traditional village of the last century formed by seven buildings of different sizes and structures, according to the economic level of the families that once lived in them.

The rooms have been restored adhering to the typical forms of constructions, being the best example on the island as regards the Majorero traditional architecture. The houses preserve at present the names of the dwellers that, until not long time ago, lived their lives between those walls. Some rooms have been converted into workshops, where artisans of palm, calado embroidery or pottery, among other things, show the details of the traditional trade. In La Alcogida architecture, culture and tradition are merged in a charming settlement that has many stories to tell.
