The light that illuminates Africa

LA ENTALLADA LIGHTHOUSE

faro de la entallada

At the nearest point of Fuerteventura and the Canaries to the African continent, scarcely one hundred kilometres of distance from its coast, La Entallada Lighthouse was built in 1954.

Located on top of a cliff at two-hundred metres above sea level, the views are
stunning: on one side, the infinite ocean, on the other side, the Natural Monument Cuchillos de Vigán, a protected natural space with great geological value for its high mountains of lava flows which are home to some of the most emblematic species of the Canaries, like the majestic Egyptian vulture, locally called Guirre.

It is a peculiar construction, made of stone, with a U-shaped floor plan, three majestic towers welcoming the visitor and a glass dome in the central tower that has guided ships and also aircrafts for years. The building is wide and includes several rooms, some of them now turned into spaces for art and culture promotion, hosting temporary exhibition of all kinds.
